Program Description
ELD Syntax in Reading and Writing will help your students learn the function of syntactic tools in reading and writing at the sentence level. No endless grammar identification and terminology worksheets; no DOL error correction; no mini-lessons. These lessons teach how challenging sentences are constructed. And you don't have to be a linguist or grammarian (whatever that is) to help your students improve their reading comprehension and writing sophistication.

The program is function-focused, that is, no unnecessary grammar jargon, no endless editing exercises, no drill and kill worksheets, etc. Think practical easy-to teach lessons ala the research in Syntax Matters by William Van Cleave and Artful Sentences by Virginia Tufte.
The parts of speech, phrases, and clauses syntax lessons are each leveled from basic (ELP Levels 2-3) to proficient (ELP Levels 3-4) to advanced (ELP Levels 4-5) and feature 6 lesson components (10–15 minutes each, once or twice per week, for the full school year). The following lesson activities are easily adapted to content classes (ELA, social studies, science, and math) to provide students the English language support they deserve.
