The Science of Reading Intervention Program: Word Recognition (Phonics, Spelling, Fluency, and Comprehension) has been specifically designed for ages 8-adult students in reading intervention, ELL, MLL, SPED, and adult literacy who have significant decoding (phonics), encoding (spelling), fluency, and comprehension challenges.

This research-based, accelerated program is perfectly suited to both veteran and new reading teachers. No need to take 160 hours of LETRS training or earn OG certification. Teachers get the training they need as they teach with easy-to-follow, scripted directions. The instructional components require no prep and only minimal correction. This program has been developed by teachers for teachers to significantly improve their students' reading skills as quickly as possible.
Note that the entire contents of this program are included in the full-year The Science of Reading Intervention Program, which also includes comprehensive language comprehension instruction and assessment-based instructional resources for differentiated instruction.
Teachers display and teach 54 lessons (3 per week), using PowerPoint or Google slides (teachers' choice). Students practice with corresponding worksheets, activities, and decodable books.
- Blending, Segmenting, and Spelling Lessons: Each phonics and spelling lesson introduces focus sound-spellings and 2 new Heart Words. The teacher leads students in continuous blending, segmenting, and spelling activities.
- Practice: During each lesson, students practice what they are learning with Say 'em as you spell 'em! spelling and handwriting worksheets; Say It! Spell It! Read It! Word Chains phonics and spelling worksheets; and Heart Words worksheets. The teacher displays answers and guides students' self-correction.
- Sam and Friends Phonics Books: Students practice the focus spelling and Heart Words in decodable stories with teenage characters and plots for each of the 54 daily lessons. Each book provides comprehension questions and word fluency practice in print and digital formats.

Sound Boxes: Each lesson concludes with a quick formative assessment worksheet with dictation and segmenting sounds. Subsequent lessons begin with review.
